DIY Body Products Workshop: Wrapup

Mar 10, 2011 by Girlwithfire

Well, the D.I.Y. Body Products workshop seems to have been a smashing success.  For all of those interested in natural body products, it really is a must read. These products are a much healthier, and more effective alternative to the average store bought options.  On top of that they are just SO easy to make!

We began with  a recipe for all natural massage candles including ingredient substitutes, photographs of the process, and some notes on why you have to wait for this, and  what changes if you don’t wait for that.  Some questions were asked and answered, the topic of flavoured massage oil came up and was addressed at the end of the candle section.  In the end there was a glorious photograph of the finished product… which looked something like this

After the Massage Candle recipe, we quickly moved on to Exfoliating Sugar Scrub, another decadent product that is even  easier to make than the first.  Since this has to be one of the easiest things to make in the history of  body products, it went by pretty quickly. We discussed  how to make a basic recipe, and included a list of variations that could be made, and why you would want them (adding coffee grounds to help treat cellulite may have been one of them). This included what ingredients to include when making a facial scrub, and when NOT to use it.  We concluded this portion with photographs of not one, but two versions of the scrub both looking absolutely delicious, if I do say so myself.  If only I could have shared the incredible fragrance!

To wrap up the workshop I included a list of  common ingredients, used in both home made, and (in much smaller quantities,) industry manufactured products. This list included benefits of each ingredient, as well as cautions for those which are more likely to cause reactions.  All in all I would say it was a pretty productive discussion, and if you happen to go check it out, you might just learn something!  I hope everybody enjoyed it, I know I sure did.
