Getting Creative with Fruits and Veggies
Here at Eden Lives Healthy we have been discussing ways to fit extra fruits and veggies into our diets.
One fast, easy way to do this is to make a smoothie that includes both. Start with ice and low calorie fruit juice and then ad the fruits and veggies of your choice. The sweetness of the fruit often cancels out the taste of the vegetables making a smoothie a great choice for adults and kids alike, especially those who wrinkle their noses when it’s time for some vegetables. Strawberries, blueberries and bananas are some fruits that would combine well with something like Spinach leaves which add a lot of healthy nutrients.
Be creative! Experiment! Who knows what delicious smoothie combinations you might come up with? Not to mention that once you mix up that smoothie in the blender you can throw it in a travel mug and take it on the go. This makes smoothies an excellent breakfast option, especially if you get your fruits and vegetables ready the night before.

Grating vegetables into other foods is also a great way to get in some extra nutrients or even hide them from picky eaters. Things like carrots and zucchini can be grated into a meatloaf, meatballs, burgers, even pasta dishes! Grating your carrots into a soup can also help to give it a thicker consistency. The vegetables absorb the flavors nicely and who knows? You might even like the taste of a turkey burger with some shredded summer squash in it better than a plain, old, boring burger.

The key is taking the time to find out what works for you. Packing in servings of fruit and veggies during the day isn’t always easy but getting creative with them can definitely help. Many, many combinations are to be had. So, why not give these ideas a try and see what you come up with?
